Embracing Being – Beyond Doing, Honouring Who You Are
Hello, Kind Souls!
As we approach a new year, the familiar buzz of resolutions fills the air. Goals, plans, and checklists often take centre stage, and while reflection is a powerful practice, it’s easy to lose sight of an essential question: Who are we being beneath all the doing?
We’re not human doings—we’re human beings. Yet, in a world that rewards productivity and external achievements, it’s no wonder we often focus on what we’re accomplishing instead of how we’re showing up.
This time of year is the perfect opportunity to pause and reconnect. Can we shift the lens from what we’re doing to why we’re doing it? Can we get curious about the values that drive us and the way we move through the world?
Especially during the holidays—and honestly, throughout the year—it’s easy to feel pulled in a hundred directions. We feel the weight of what others want, think, and expect from us. But here’s the truth: we’re not here to live someone else’s version of our life. Our gift to the world is to show up as our most authentic selves. The more we step into that light, the brighter it shines.
It’s natural for others to project their perspectives onto us. Well-meaning loved ones may share advice, sometimes unsolicited, based on what has worked for them. And if we’re not deeply attuned to our own voice, it can be easy to internalize their opinions, thinking, “Maybe they’re right.”
But their vision of what’s “right” is often rooted in their experiences, not ours. This is why nurturing our connection to ourselves is so vital. At the end of the day, the question is: Were we true to our values, or someone else’s?
If you’re reflecting on this past year or thinking ahead to what’s next, I invite you to join me in focusing less on external accomplishments and more on how you want to show up in this world. Below are a few prompts to guide your reflection:
What moments made me feel most aligned with my true self this past year?
Are there stories or beliefs holding me back that I’m ready to release?
How do I want to show up for myself and others in the coming year?
What values do I want to centre in my daily actions?
How can I nurture a deeper connection to myself, especially in challenging moments?
I don’t set formal resolutions at New Year’s, but I love checking in with myself throughout the year. Here are some of my ongoing intentions:
Continue releasing layers of stories and programming that no longer serve me, and hold me back from shining my light as brightly as possible.
Deepen my connection to my body—through nourishment, movement, and kind words.
Embrace responsibility for how I show up and the energy I bring into the world.
Release comparison and trust that my journey doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s.
Live from a place of love and abundance, rather than fear and scarcity.
If you’re not sure where to begin, start with your connection to yourself. When we nurture that relationship, the next step often becomes clear. As you strengthen your connection to your inner voice, you create space for the path ahead to unfold naturally.
The start of a new year is a wonderful time to reflect—but don’t forget, the journey isn’t about becoming better. It’s about becoming more of yourself. The more you honour who you truly are, the more aligned and fulfilling life becomes.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Christina
