Embracing Your Future Self – One Choice at a Time

Welcome back, Lovely Souls!

What is your future self like? Where do they live? How do they spend their time? How do they feel when they wake up in the morning?

For many of us, the vision of our future self feels distant—like a far-off hope that we may or may not reach. That distance can either keep us stuck… or it can become a compass, gently inviting us to shift.

Sometimes, what holds us back isn’t the dream—it’s the fear.
“What if it doesn’t work out?”
“What if I try and still fail?”

And the truth? There are no guarantees. But fixating on what we’re trying to avoid rarely moves us forward. In fact, it often pulls us deeper into fear. Because the brain doesn’t register negation very well. Simon Sinek illustrates this perfectly when he says, "Don’t think of an elephant." And just like that—you’re picturing an elephant. It’s the same when we focus on everything we don’t want. We become hyper-aware of the obstacles, and they start to define the path.

Picture this: you’re driving down a road or walking a trail. Up ahead, there’s something you want to avoid. If you fixate on it—if your eyes stay locked on the thing you don’t want to hit—you’re more likely to veer right toward it. But if you shift your gaze toward where you want to go, your body follows. Your choices align.

Adding to that tendency, research shows our brains are more likely to act when the motivation is avoiding a negative rather than pursuing a gain. But here’s the problem: if we’re constantly operating from a place of avoidance, our decisions become rooted in fear, not alignment.

If you want to build something different—in your career, relationships, or your daily life—you have to be able to see more than the roadblocks. You have to be willing to imagine what’s possible. That’s why it’s so important to connect to your “why.” Not just what you want—but why. How do you want to feel? Because sometimes, what we’re really craving isn’t the thing itself—it’s the feeling we believe it will bring.

So what does that future version of you feel like?
How do they move through the world?
What grounds them when things feel uncertain?

What would it be like to start making decisions today as if you already were that person?

We often say, “I’ll do that when I get there.”
But the truth is, we get there by living that way now.
You don’t have to do it all at once. But small, consistent choices rooted in your values start to shift the way you show up—and over time, they begin to shape the life you’re moving toward.

Maybe your future self spends more time in nature.  Maybe they prioritize rest, or speak up more often? Maybe they connect to their body daily, spend time with nourishing people, eat more whole foods, or create with consistency? Do they make decisions based on their values, rather than fear?

Start there. With a single choice.

You don’t have to have it all figured out. But you can begin to make choices that reflect that version of you—the you you’ve always been, underneath the old stories and survival strategies. The journey shapes you into the person you need to be in order to hold what you’re working toward. As Marcus Aurelius is often attributed as saying, “Finding the way, is the way.”

So, get curious:

  • What about that future version of you is most compelling?

  • What do they feel like when they wake up?

  • What do they believe about themselves?

  • What daily practices help them stay grounded?

  • What are they no longer available for?

Let those answers be your compass. On the days when motivation is hard to find, use them to focus on what you’re moving toward. Let them guide the next small choice.

You don’t need a full map. Just a little more intention. A little more trust. Your future self isn’t waiting at the finish line.
They’re already within you—calling you forward, one choice at a time. And if you need a little support along the way, I’d love to walk beside you.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Christina
